Wednesday, November 30

Happy last day of November! A light covering of snow helping us say good-bye to November. December 1 tomorrow - so hard to believe. As we celebrated the first Sunday of Advent at church we were reminded that Jesus is the Light and we await His return as the Light of the World. That goes along great with our memory verse this week commanding us to be the light in the darkness - we are to be God's light in this dark world until his return.

Tuesday, November 29

I apologize for not posting yesterday. We have been without Internet at school the past few days and completely forgot about it by the time I got home last night. Of course I had to make a stop at the Secretary of State on my way home - waiting until the last minute to renew my license! I guess there is no one to blame but myself!

I had a wonderful day and feel so blessed with the all the birthday wishes and birthday love from my students. I was welcomed this morning by a classroom completely decked out for my birthday! Complete with balloons, streamers and posters. This afternoon we celebrated with an amazing cake and ice cream - thank you Renee and Maria! And no birthday celebration would be complete without a birthday girl tiara, blinking birthday girl pin and birthday girl glasses. It was clear to everyone today that it indeed was my birthday! Thank you students for making it such a great day!

What an awesome day we in 5th and 6th grade! The students worked so hard on this beautiful autumn day!! I have been so blessed so far this year with such nice weather on my recess day - I'm counting my blessings and naming them one by one! Speaking of counting our blessings - don't forget to have your student bring in their items for the thanksgiving basket, as well as $4 to cover the cost of the turkeys. I'm really excited about this opportunity we have as a class to help others who are in need - sharing our blessings with them!

The highlight of my day were the American Dream posters. Each student "presented" their poster to the class - explaining/describing what they did for their posters. There were so many creative and well-done posters. Thank you for a job well done, students!

Here is a recap of our busy day:

November 14 Newsletter

Monday, November 14

I trust that everyone enjoyed the half-day off on Friday - I sure did! I worked on the students' report cards this weekend and am so excited about the new format! We are generating the report cards electronically. All the information is the same, just a different format. We were actually able to add two new features to the report cards: percentages with the grades and comments for each individual subject instead of an area for general comments. I found that feature very helpful in communicating to you how your child is doing in the specific subjects. Look for the report cards, they are coming home Wednesday (which is also a half day!)

Here is a recap of our day:

Reading - American Dream poster is due tomorrow 11/15 - if it is raining make sure to use a garbage bag to protect it! I would hate for a poster to be ruined after all the work the students have done! We read pages 206-207 and worked on visualizing when reading - using the details and descriptive language to imagine what is happening in the story (don't worry I'm not teaching New Age techniques!) :)

Math - Lesson 41 due 11/15 - no test or quiz this week :)

Writing - American Dream Poster due 11/15

Spelling - test is on Thursday this week!

Tuesday, November 8

I apologize for not posting yesterday (Monday). It completely slipped my mind and didn't think of it until late last night. I figured it was a bit of a mute point by then! :) I had the privilege of attending In-Service at Dearborn Public Schools this afternoon. I was able to attend two sessions and found both of them to be so helpful and full of useful information. The students will be happy to know that I learned so new games for Math class, helping with memorizing math facts. I can't wait to use them in class. Laura Davidson was in the classroom for me today. She so enjoyed spending the rest of the day with the students and praised them on their excellent behavior. I have to admit that I was quite proud of my students! Thank you class for being on your best behavior!

Here is a recap of our day:

Reading - no In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson due next week - instead they have a poster project on the "American Dream". Students worked very hard today; working with each other to study for Science. As busy and demanding as my job can be (as any job can be!) I am so grateful to God for allowing me to teach here at DCS. I LOVE my job and cannot imagine doing anything else. There are days that are difficult and long, but in the end God gives me joy in what I do. I am fortunate to first have a job and secondly to work at DCS where God's word is spoken and lived out each day. I LOVE seeing my students grow in the Lord and in their relationships with others. Tuesday, November 1

Happy November! What a gorgeous beginning to a new month! God has blessed us with so many good things. Each blog entry this month I am going to include at least one thing I am thankful for. I know I should be thankful each and every day, not just around Thanksgiving. Baby steps right now. I will strive for one month and it will become a habit and will do all year around! :) I'm including two things today: First of all as I have mentioned - THE BEAUTIFUL AUTUMN WEATHER. What an awesome day to have recess duty! Trust me, you won't hear me saying that come January when it is bitterly cold :) Secondly I am thankful and grateful for a God who supports and sustains us. A God who is imputable - never changes. He has called me to be His child and watches over, takes care of and protects me like a father does. I don't deserve His grace, but He keeps giving it to me and giving it to me. I indeed have a grateful heart!

We did have a full day. A lot of work was completed in our day. The students should feel good about all the work they completed and the manner in which it was completed! Good job!
